Aeromedical Team

Cal-Ore Life Flight utilizes highly trained medical teams, overseen by local physician and Air Medical Director, Dr. Sandra Saunders. Dr. Saunders is a full time ER Physician and ER Director at Sutter Coast Hospital. She is board certified in emergency medicine. In addition, Dr. Mark Lau, an Orthopedic specialist and former Air Force Flight Surgeon, assists both Medical Directors on a consulting basis.

Cal-Ore employs only well qualified, FAA approved Airline Transport Rated (ATP) pilots, all of whom  have extensive experience both in emergency ambulance flights and in the flying conditions found in this area, and have logged thousands of flight hours. All pilots are ground and flight tested regularly to stringent FAA standards.

At present, Cal-Ore Life Flight employs eleven (11) FAA certified Part 135 pilots, with over 100,000 hours of combined flying experience.

In most cases, two Registered Nurses (RN's), or an RN and a Paramedic (EMT), who are extensively trained in critical care, emergency medicine, and Advanced Life Support (ALS), travel with the patient "bedside to bedside." When the patient's condition requires it, other medical professionals such as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) and/or a Medical Doctor (MD) will accompany the medical team.

In accordance with CAMTS standards, all medical team members are required to undergo continual training to ensure they are up-to-date with all established air ambulance medical and flight protocols/procedures.

To complement the medical team, Cal-Ore Life Flight utilizes the services of Flight Coordinators who ensure that aircraft, pilot, and nurses are available to respond within 20 minutes of an emergency call.

When transporting a patient on the ground or by air ambulance, it is important to have the most qualified personnel on board offering the highest standard of care. For this reason, Cal-Ore Life Flight employs only the very best.
